Why 2 browsers instances when I only open 1 ?

Hello,

Well I tried and tried but I just can't seem to find a fix to this annoying problem :
I'm using SUSE 10 x64 KDE and when I open up a firefox or mozilla window, it opens up two instances at the same time. I get one working tab instance of the program while the other one churns for a while and eventually doesn't open and closes all by itself....
I tried deleting the entire .mozilla directory from my user directory which results in only one browser window being opened for a little while (1 or 2 hours) but I can't seem to find a correlation between when it starts opening up two instances again which ALWAYS happen after a while. This is pretty silly but I really can't seem to find a thread with anyone who has experienced this. Is there some other setting that is causing this problem? Konqueror doesn't seem to summon two instances... but I prefer firefox for web browsing.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

D.D

Oh and one more detail - the 2 browser windows only open when one is already up and running. If it's the first instance that is being summoned, it works normally - however every subsequent instance of firefox which is summoned cause 2 to be launched....

Do you single-click or double-click to open Firefox?

Yes I use a single-click of course... that would be too easy :-)
Thanks though - you never know how easy the solution may be.
