Smile while working java i want use linux

while working java I wanted to use it Linux .So I
installed the jdk and started working in it .But the
main problem with me is that I had to put all the
files either in the /usr/java/jdk1.3./bin. I am using
Red Hat 9.0 although I was able to set the path
temporarily but I had to change it every time whenever
closed the console I wanted to set the path
permanently. (as in win98 we do by giving the path of
directory in autoexec.bat). I had heard that we could
set the path by performing some changes in the
/etc/profile I tried but I could not be successful

May I get your help in setting the path permanently
in Linux . Can you plz tell what and which type of
changes should be done there.

if you change it in /etc/profile then you'll need to either login again or use 'source /etc/profile' to reread it.

Hey ...I can even do java without settin the path variable...I donno whether this would be of help to you or not ...but...my suggestion is to do some fast Java and get into Programming Java is to enter the directory whether Java is located...and start Programming...Personally...I follow this method and its cool...Hope this helps!
