which kde am i running ?

recently I installed mandrake 9.0. (btw the setup was quick and ez)

It came with kde 3.0.3 so I downloaded and installed the kde 3.0.4 rpms for mandrake.

I used 'rpm -vi --force --nodeps <filename> ' for the whole set of files.

everything is running fine but 'rpm -qa |grep kdebase' returns the following.

$ rpm -qa |grep kdebase
kdebase-3.0.3-68mdk
kdebase-devel-3.0.3-68mdk
kdebase-3.0.4-1mdk
kdebase-nsplugins-3.0.3-68mdk

How can this be. Does rpm -qa tell me what's running or does it report what packages are found on the system?

Is there a way to determine exactly what I'm running?

thx

Did you install the rpms in the order it says too in the readme?

Garry :D

It tells you what packages are installed on the system, to see what version open up kde Control Center. It tells you on the first screen there.

Cool

Kde Control Center reports 3.0.4 so that's cool.

I did not installed the rpm in any suggested order. I assumed it wouldn't matter since I was installing everything anyway. That's why I used --force and --nodeps when I did the install.

I could be wrong about this. Assumptions often come back to bite.

Later and thx again for the help

No problem..

I am not sure if it really is going to matter if you are installing all deps eventually, especially when doing via RPM's. Since when you install something it goes into the RPM db, I would think it'd be ok. Good Luck though, and I hope it doesn't all of a sudden blow up on ya :D

Why is everyone upgrading each .0x release? Are the bugs that bad in each release that you really need to do it? I've noticed quite a few threads on upgrading from .03 to .04 so that's why I am wondering.

Cool

I'm new to linux so the only reason I moved from 3.0.3 to 3.0.4 was just to see if I could.
