which GUI database?
 

I currently use Filemaker Pro on Mac and Windows. I'm looking for a similar desktop frontend database in Linux. This is for use in a community radio station that is considering going over to Linux. It needs to be very user friendly.

If your database is not to big, you may work with gaby, otherwise consider using mysql or postgresql. It's not to hard and there are some frontends. Or maybe Rekall is something for you, but it's a commercial product.

Thanks, we will be using mysql on our server, however, I am more concerned about the frontend. I need something that is user friendly as many of our volunteers are not that computer literate. I am more so than average, but, still not a code writer. I am very much a newbie with Linux. My platform of choice has been Mac OS for maybe ten years. I still love it but do not see our organisation having the cash to purchase new macs running OS X. I see Linux as a platform that fulfills both my practical and ethical concerns. I have created a few solutions on Filemaker Pro and am learning more with that program, but, as it is mac and windows only, I am looking for something similar on Linux.

Cant anyone help with a good easy GUI for mysql or postgresql ? I'm also coming from FilemakerPro and MS Access

I'm also in the process of trying to find an easy to use frontend for mysql or postgresql. It should be able to create reports and have an html-export-function of them.

The only thing which I found yet and which seems to be promising (that is might be sometimes) is kexi (http://www.koffice.org/kexi/).

Has anybody found anything better / more evolved?

there was a application written in perl which handles your databases....am forgetting its name....will let you guys know asap...it runs on a browser and you can make entries etc..

I have used PHPmyAdmin. It works very well for a lot of hands off apps.

I'd rather like to have a gui which is also possible to create forms and reports with, not only administer the db. It'd be perfect if I also could export these reports to html or even be able to export the db to xml/css/dtd/html/... that is to browse the data using any popular web-browser without having to install the database or a runtime-version (i.e. access-runtime in windows-world).
