Which directory do I install firefox in on Debian Etch?
I'm sure I've done this before, but ah well...
I just downloaded the firefox-2.0.0.4.tar.gz file from mozilla.com, with the intention of replacing IceWeasel.
However, I can't remember which directory to un-tar the file into. However, it does run from my home directory, so I know it works.
I'm reckoning it should be somewhere in /usr/ but other than that, I have no idea.

Anywhere you want really, even keep it in $HOME. I install Firefox in /opt/firefox-{Version} and create an /opt/firefox symlink. Then I add /opt/firefox/bin to my $PATH. When i install a new version of Firefox, I just change the symlink, make sure everything works for a few days (you never know), then delete the old version directory. Easy and clean.

I found that it's better to install it to /opt/firefox if you have multiple users.

Ah... I think I'll move it to /opt/firefox even though there's only me on this PC.
If I leave it in my home dir, there's a high chance that I'll have a tidy up and blitz the thing.
(Been there, done that.)
OK, thanks!
