Where to find Slack 12.0 Package of OpenOffice 2.3.1
It seems there is a bug in OpenOffice 2.4.0 and it's been hosing my work for several weeks (ever since I installed OOo 2.4.0). I need to revert back to OpenOffice 2.3.1 but I can't find the package for it on any of the Slack sites.
Would anyone know where I can find a Slackware 12.0 package or SlackBuild of OpenOffice 2.3.1. If you have the package on your machine, maybe we could do a little ftp-ing to get it to me. ?? Thanks. Greg |
linuxpackages.net is a good place to find Slack packages. Here's a link for Open Office....

Yeah, I regularly check LinuxPackages along with Slacky in Italy and the SlackBuilds site (which I really like). But when the OOo 2.3.1 package available for Slack 12.0 on Linux Packages is the "Bulgarian" build. Here's the blurb from the download page:

Thanks, though. Greg |
I appologize, I didn't realize that was the Bulgarian version. That would explain the BG at the end, that I ignored. Anyway, after looking at their site, openoffice.org, it doesn't look like 2.3.1 was widely available. However, I did find this...

Yep, I had found that, too. I already downloaded the source tarball for OOo 2.3.1. I was all set to "removepkg OpenOffice-2.4.0..." when I thought about the mess I could be making by installing a non-Slack-package onto my system. I opted for a bit of patience and posted here hoping someone could point me to the Slackware package so I could take advantage of package management. If not... well, then I'll give the tarball source a shot and see if it just "works."
Thanks again! ~Greg |
You might want to check Slackbuilds.org. Since their Slackbuild script just repackages an RPM, you could probably just modify the script they have posted. Another alternative would be to use src2pkg, which can build Slackware packages out of an rpm or deb package.

I'll download the OOo_2.3.1_LinuxIntel_install_en-US.tar.gz (sans wJRE) and see if I can make a go of it with a modified SlackBuild script. Thanks, again! ~Greg |
I just modified the 2.4.0 SlackBuild script and used it to install OpenOffice 2.3.1. I think it worked (still yet to test drive it much...).
If anyone would like to use the 2.3.1 SlackBuild I made, you're welcome to it. Here's the link. No guarantees, though. I'm not a professional nerd by any stretch of the imagination. Greg |
