Unhappy Where to download kernel 2.6.9-5.0.5.EL ?

Well I've been trying to install Oracle ASMLib, and I have downloaded the ASMLib kernel driver for kernel 2.6.9-5.0.5.EL.

When I ran the RPM, I got the accursed Unable to load module "oracleasm" error message. After googling for answer, it seemed the problem happened because my linux kernel is actually 2.6.9-5EL (minus the "0.5"). So it seemed my kernel version is lower than that of the ASMLib kernel driver (2.6.9-5EL vs 2.6.9-5.05EL).

(by the way, am I being correct here? Is it true that I got the error is because of kernel version mismatch?)

I've been Googling ad nauseam, looking for a download link for kernel 2.6.9-5.0.5EL, and haven't found any. I already tried kernel.org website, and it doesn't have the specific kernel version I need either (there are 2.6.9, 2.6.12, 2.6.17, etc, but no 2.6.9-5.0.5EL I'm looking for). So where can I download the 2.6.9-5.05EL kernel I badly need? :sad:

Alternatively, how about kernel 2.6.9-11 or 2.6.9-22? The ASMLib download site provides kernel drivers for such version numbers. Where could I find those kernels?

Or how about using a kernel version much higher than the version specified in the ASMLib driver? For example, if I'm using linux kernel 2.6.17, can I install the ASMLib driver for kernel 2.6.9.5-05EL successfully?
Thanks,
-Kresh

Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernels are available from Red Hat and the 'clone' sites, for example;

ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linu...ES/en/os/SRPMS
ftp://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux/...0/i386/SL/RPMS

And no the ASMLib package is built for the exact kernel it was named after, quoting from the link you provided;

The driver packages are named after the kernel they support. Run the "uname -r" command on your machine to determine your kernel version. The corresponding package has the name oracleasm-<kernel_version>.

Update: I went to ftp.redhat.com ftp site, and got into the folder. Alas, I could not see the contents (everytime I executed ls, it gave me 425 Use PORT or PASV first error message.

Anyone know the exact name and/or extension of the update? For instance, is kernel-2.6.9-5EL.tar.gz a correct name? Or is it something else? It seems I have to download blind.

More Update: Uh, so I tried to play guess and executed this command: "get kernel-2.6.9-5.0.5EL.tar.gz" (guessing the extension), but it seems I could not even execute the get command, because the ftp site kept giving me the 425 Use PORT or PASV first error message.

Hint: RHEL 4 is an rpm based distro so guess again.

FYI: any browser can view the first link.

FYI: unless you know how to build from source rpm files you will not have a working kernel to install. You also need to prepare the source for building fefore you actually build.

Since it obvious (you do not have access to the binary kernel rpm package) that you do not have a valid Red Hat subscription you might want to visit the other site I provided in my first reply.

Suggestion: A number of freely available RHEL clones are available consider using one of these instead, here are a couple of choices;
