where is the source code?

Hi,
If I install, e.g. a software called "x" by "apt-get install x", then can I access the source code of "x" from inside Ubuntu 10.10.

I am running my Ubuntu 10.10 inside VirtualBox.

Bye.

yes you can access it but you have to download it first.

apt-get install x will install the binary and not the source.

Maybe there is a package x-source ready to download (check first if you do not have to add a repository to get it). In any case, you can also go on the website of the project and download the code from there.

For package x, run

Code:
apt-get source x
.. and read it with ls -dF x*
