where do I access my desktop

Lets say I save a file on my desktop, on one of my user accounts. If I am logged in as root how do I get to that desk(another user) top. It seems unreachable. I am able to navigate to /home/user but not that users desktop.

"It seems unreachable."

root can access anything. Your problem is that you can't find it. To find out where a file called geronimos.last.words is open a terminal and try the following command:

find / -iname "*geronimos.last.words*"

I just tried this on Shrike, and there is no problem accessing the file. Are you sure the file really is in the /home/user/Desktop directory?

Thanks, I used the command $find / -iname "*geronimos.last.words*" that worked. The directory is /home/shane/.gnome-desktop.

How come when I was in the directory /home/shane, then typed $dir it did not show me .gnome-desktop?

The dot at the beginning of the file name makes it a hidden file. Some commands display hidden files, others do not.
