Where did those great old media players go???????

So using Ubuntu 10.04 right now, but find this problem on any Linux distro newer than 2006... I always used to be able to find advanced audio controls and EQ on media players in old Linux, but on new ones WHERE DID IT GO?? I have installed TONS of media players and still can't find one that works good... Here's all I want:
Media player that has a Equalizer and Virtualizer (Also known as Audio enhancer, in Windows known as SRS, on Android as Virtualizer.). Any suggestions on what to use? Thanks,

As in VLC > CTRL+E ?

I've tried VLC's Equalizer but it doesn't work quite the same way... Adjusting which bands the EQ shows also is not possible. It's missing 5k which is by far the most important to me...

VLC > CTRL+P > Show settings:all > Audio > Filters > Parametric Equalizer:pick a freq and set it?

Just for the record, mplayer has an equalizer.

Alright guys! Thanks... Found the spatializer able to do what I needed. Thanks! VLC cuts it!
