Where can one find ratings and reviews?

In Debian I go into Apper and look for software like FTP or VNC and I get a list of software that I know nothing about.

Is there a place or tool where I can type in things like FTP or VNC and get ratings and reviews?

Kind of like a Yelp for Linux software?

There are many websites that review Linux softare.

The easiest thing is to do a websearch of "(package) review." Wikipedia is also likely to have articles on the items in question.

TightVNC is a very well-reviewed VNC package for Linux. As for FTP, most distros include the command line ftp package. GFTP and Filezilla (from Mozilla) are excellent GUI applications. I use GFTP.
