When I try to update it says I don't have enough hard space.

I was updating fedora core 4 and it said I ran out of hard drive space.
I ran a low level format stamped all zero's on my 26 gig.drive. I reloaded my four cd-roms and used yum to download all updates. It wouldn't let me install them due to lack of space. I had to install a few at a time. I try to install 10 or 20 install then redownload.
I have a 32gig drive for windows and downloaded all 8 cr-roms for linux plus windows and office and other downloads and still have a lot of space.
How can I resolve this problem?

Can you post your partition table so we can see how your drive is split up? Is it one partition for windows, one for linux and a swap partition? Do you have multiple linux partitions (and what size are they)?

I only have linux on the hard drive. I used fedora's automatic partioning.

Even so - can you post the output of fdisk -l? 26GB is more than enough for an entire install of Fedora so it sounds like something odd has happened during partitioning.

Also "df -h" while you are at it. Sounds like a bad allocation of available space.

If I'm reading the OP's post correctly, he currently doesn't have an OS installed, and so can't run commands as requested.

Richard, you want to make sure your Fedora disks are correct. sha1sum them to check that they're all good. I wouldn't rely soley on the built in "check this disk" tool.

There should be a way to boot from that first Fedora disk and run the commands suggested here. You may have to Ctrl-Alt-Fkey to get to another virtual terminal to run them. Fedora may come with a "rescue" CD, but I have no idea what it does or how to use it.

The folks at fedoraforums might be of some help in using the Fedora install/rescue CD's to check your partition map and hard drive.

The system is completely installed and working properly. It needed 384 updates at one time. I used yum downloaded all of them but it wouldn't install them. It said I was out of hard drive space. I had to delete the updates. Redownload 10 or 20 and install them. Then I go through this process again until I get the system updated.
Instead of getting up and setting up yum and being finished after breakfast. I have to waste a lot more time updating.
The only other software beside numerous plugins I have is star office 8
