when does an rpm package execute the binary

Hi all,
I'm packaging a binary for .rpm and wondering - at which step in .SPEC does the unpack process run the binary?

I think I may need to execute it manually in the makefile or postinst script, but is there a way to automatically start a daemon via the .SPEC file?

Thanks!

I hope you're not packaging a ready-made binary but creating a package following the regular guidelines?

Generally speaking RPM does not "start applications" on package installation because 0) the package may be part of a bigger installation set 1) and the application may require manual configuration by the user and 2) Linux is not Windows (the installer asking you if you want to start it). If the package contains a service then you can register the service and start it in the %post section, yes.
