When clicking RealPlayer link, get general error message
Hello,
I installed RealPlayer 8 with plugins. I put a symlink to a plugin to /usr/local/RealPlayer8/Plugins/rpnp.so in both the mozilla/plugins directory as well as the mozilla-1.x.x/plugins directory. When I click on the realplayer link, I get an error message. Any ideas? |
What error message?
And I think you actually have to copy the file alongwith another file named raclass.zip. Hope this helps... |
The error message is the Mozilla Downlaod Manager. It says it does not know how to play files of type "audio/x-pn-realplay". It wants to know if I want to save the stream to disk so I am guessing it does not recognize the stream. I am not sure how to tell Mozilla to use the realplayer plugin when it sees that type of file.

I noticed something else. I went to the menu on Mozilla:
Help --> About Plugins and it has a listing of the plugin. It says: rpnp.so File name: rpnp.so MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin RealPlayer Plugin Metafile rpm Yes |
OK. For those viewing this post for a solution, I figured it out.
Even though I had RealPlayer 8 installed correctly and the shared object rpnp.so is the correct plugin, I had the wrong entry in the Mozilla Download manager. When the manager comes up, you should click the 'Open With' radio button and select /usr/local/RealPlayer8/realplay in the program text box. Once I did this, Mozilla launched real player which opened the file. Thanks chem1 for the reply. Looks like you dont need raclass.zip after all though. |
