wheel mouse and touchpad

I'm using redhat 9 on my inspiron 8200 laptop and I have a Logitech infrared wheel mouse. Now my problem is when I disconnect the wheel mouse and start using the touchpad it goes all to hell. I can fix this by changing the moiuse option from (generic) wheel mouse (PS2) to (generic) 3 Button mouse PS2. Then I have to restart X. My question is there a way around this so I can use touchpad and mouse at the same time just like in windows.

Kind Regards

at the same time? not if you only have 1 ps2 port.... unless that's not what you mean...

if you were to get a usb or serial adapter for one device so they are both physically connected at the same time it is easy emough to manually add a second pointing devic to your XF86Config. i daresay that redhat-config-world-domination or whatever redhat uses now could set it up.

I'm having a similar issue with the touchpad and a USB mouse. Whenever I boot up, Mandy 9.1 gives me a HW change warning, and selects whichever is acrive (USB supercedes the touchpad). I'd still like to use both, or be able to hotswap the USB mouse from time to time.

I'll fill you in if I find anything out. It would be optimal to have both active at the same time.

I'm running Debian on a HP Pavilion xf328, and I have no difficulty switching between the touchpad and USB Optical wheelmouse. The touchpad does have a switch witch allows me to disable it - makes it a lot easier to use the keyboard. So I guess this is a hardware issue.

Still don't have the scrollpad working though ( the touchpad, as I said, is fine).

Steve Cronje,

Does your HP have a separate area for the scroll pad? The Inspirons have an area of the touchpad that is designated for the scroll function. It is enabled in windows via SW drivers. Is scroll area on you HP just a colored portion of your touch pad? If so, then the issue may be that we need to add a SW patch to our drivers to mimic this function.

It's part of the touchpad. Off to the side with a vertical line in the touchpad that separates it from the rest of the touchpad. This part is "dead". Of course, it also only has 2 buttons, so one needs 3 button emulation.

Hey guys,

I found a website with some great links for support. First, it informs us about /dev/psmouse and /dev/psaux - 2 different PS/2 hardware ports for us to use... now how to attach a driver to each I don't yet know. The link below describes this AND has references to drivers that support the scroll function.

Sbadelt I have a usb wheel mouse and the touchpad active at
the same time on my toshiba with mdk9.1. Just used mousedrake
to select it and all was fine.

On using both with MouseDrake

Hmmm... I thought I tried that, but sometimes I miss the obvious! I'll let you know!

Thanx, that's a good link. I have not spent much time on this yet, so you did a llot of the work for me! I will let this thread know when I install the module (don't hold your breath!)
