What terminal software do u use?

I just find that you can use other terminal software instead of the default one in the linux system.
So what terminal software do you think is better?

Thanks

i just use the default.... that and a couple of hardware terminals (WY-150s) attached via the serial ports...

trickykid 02-07-2004 11:38 AM

xterm mainly but any will do except the gnome-terminal which is just utter crap...

Baldorg 02-07-2004 11:41 AM

RXVT

aterm. It's exactly like xterm with shade and transparency support, I think :)

Ahh trickykid, be nice ;)
I used gnome-term for a long time. Easy transparency, the usual 'right click' copy/paste and tabs. I recently switched to Eterm though after installing Gentoo on my laptop. It doesn't have much disk space so I didn't want to install Gnome and what not when I'll just use Fluxbox on it.

Actually trickykid, I came upon one of your old posts explaining the copy/paste method for Eterm :). That was mainly what kept me from using it before was not knowing how to do that! Eterm is cool and lightweight. I'll prob stick with it now.

was using Eterm mostly, but aterm seems to be a little lighter and faster, and is easier to configure. Now it's aterm only, unless I'm not running X.

aterm.

Crashed_Again 02-07-2004 03:15 PM

Me likey aterm.

brian 02-07-2004 03:28 PM

aterm also

synaptical: What did you use to change the font color in your sig links? I have tried various html tags in different ways and nothing has worked for me yet. Viewing page source shows the real html tags, but of course, they are different for use on the forum.

Eterm is not lightweight, at least not when compared to xterm, rxvt, wterm and aterm - only when compared to Konsole or Gnome-Terminal. ;)

I use aterm. I have a pretty functional setup that I like with all my preferences in my .Xdefaults file. Works beatifully.

.Xdefaults:
Code:

aterm*visualBell:true
aterm*loginShell:true
aterm*background:black
aterm*foreground:lightgray
aterm*transparent:true
aterm*shading:50
aterm*font:-windows-profontwindows-medium-r-normal-*-*-110-*-*-c-*-microsoft-cp1252
aterm*boldFont:-windows-profontwindows-medium-r-normal-*-*-110-*-*-c-*-microsoft-cp1252
aterm*saveLines:800
aterm*cursorColor:green
aterm*colorMode:true
aterm*pointerColor:yellow
aterm*pointerColor2:yellow
aterm*borderWidth:1
aterm*truetintingType:true
aterm*fade:80

Oh, and to do colors and inline URLs in your sig or in posts here you need to use vBcode.

Oh and the font used in my example above is the superb ProFontWindows, available for Linux, Mac, Windows (and so on) here. It really makes living a lot easier. :)

One word of caution though - the Truetype (TTF) version *sucks*. Don't use that.

do you have vBCode enabled in your options? i just used the color tag inside the links, for example:

<url=http://www.url.com><color=darkred>url.com</color></url>

(replace < and > with brackets)

Scruff 02-07-2004 06:16 PM

Got it. Thanks guys.
Yea, I had it enabled. I used [size=1] to make my hardware specs smaller, but I don't remember where I picked that up. I was trying to use [font color=" "] etc for the colors though.
