Of course i ran it. I knew for fact that I hardly login as root. Why would I afraid of such retarded trick?
Reading a manual of rm command is one thing, reading and 3k + lines of mencoder manual and understand it is another thing.
Just like trying to settle a divoce case at court. Anyone can do it, all they need to do is "read" the law book at their local law library. Why would anyone needs a lawyer for it?
Everyone here is good at something. Someone is good at using mencoder, while others maybe good at compile a kernel. At the same time, someone else could be good at manage their stupid exchange server for all I care.
While recongizing each other strength and share it through a media such as LQ forum is the best way keep this community growing. No some arrogance a$$ trying run around and tell people to "read" instead of posting anything productive.
arrogance, defined at Dictionary.com as "overbearing pride evidenced by a superior manner toward inferiors" But I figured you probably rather go "read" it from your Oxford dictionary (if you have one).
Good on yah! He has been needing to hear that for a long time!!!

I already said something productive and people like to ignore what I am saying. After I have said avidemux, there are now three people that mention avidemux. It seems people do not read posts thoroughly.
I usually spend time reading the man pages a few times to figure out what they are saying. I rarely create a thread because I read, read, read.
You can read the mplayer's man pages one line at a time or hit F1 to find commands how to search for a text.
It means you did not read the manual. When someone gives you a command, you should check what the options will do before running the command.
Try doing
rm -Rf /
I was aghast when I read this post. This is perhaps the most unprofessional act I've ever seen on this list. You should *never* recommend such an action to anyone -- even if you're doing it in fun or because you think you're being ignored -- because the other person might not know any better and could utterly wreck his or her system.
You're a "senior member" of the list, and I seek out your posts on matters relating to video processing in Linux, but this is unconscionable and you should be ashamed. My only hope is that the moderator has already called you on it.

you sure mentioned something productive, but at the time when I was reading this thread, I prefered Simon's idea. Just because you may think you are being ignored, the follow quoted post from you was no welcomed to the newbie community.

just exactly what the hell was that? you are senior LQ member, everyone looks up to your post. That attitude was unacceptable. If you don't want to help, walk away from this thread, with or without you, I still can solve my problems.

The purpose of thread, is for me to post questions. You may read the man pages a few times to figure stuff out and that's YOU, you are welcome to recommand me to read the man page, but your behavior here was starting a fire more then trying to help.
Again, if you don't want to help, no one is bugging you to stay on this thread. Linux just my hobby, my life moves on with or without your help. No one is bounded to take crap from you here.
