Question What serial comms app comes with RedHat ??

Hi Guys,

Quick question for someone ...

We have a new machine with RedHat enterprise 5 on it.
I need to connect a serial cable to the serial port and talk to another system (old alpha system) instead of using a VT connected to the alpha.

Does RedHat come with anything like Keaterm/hyperterm/etc etc ??

This is a production machine so I cant just download an app, it would have to be approved by the gods first ! ;-)

Thanks in advance

Adbru

kermit should work too.

Oh sorry. I just saw that you prefer preinstalled tools. Minicom should be the best tool to do this.

Sorry for the delay in replying (been offshift)

Thanks for the info, got minicom working fine :-)

Got another question though....
When you lock the screen (rather than logout), most o/s's will blank the desktop.
Is there a way to still display the desktop ??
i.e. I want to be able to lock the screen (for security) but still see the output of the minicom window.

Thanks again

Adrian
