Post What scripts would you like to see?

Hello all you script kiddies. Just wondering what kinds of scripts you all would like to see made. It can be somethign as simple as a script to modify the prompt format or as complex as modifying system services like apache or vsftpd. Make a suggestion of a task you have to do on a regular basis that you would love to have scripted out into either a command line interface via shell script, or even a full-blown x app. hopefully we can get quite a few really good ideas and some either pre-existing scripts for the task or someone willing to code one up.

The reason I am asking is that alot of people are good at alot of diffrent things. Configuring software, scripting, setting up security, even turning the darned thing on... all require diffrent areas of knowledge and expertise. I can fumble through shell scripting a little bit... but i know HTML backwards and forwards... it's diffrent for everyone. If we can get everyone together to help unify some of these common, useful scripts, maybey we can generate a system-wide applet that can control several hundred diffrent functions.

Please make sure you post your distro and version, as well as the version of the program you need a script for. let's get a library going.

Tom

Firewall Config Script

I'll start this one off with a bang. Ok... I'm running Slackware 9.1. I KNOW linux has a default firewall... but darned it if I can;t figure out WHAT that is let alone how to configure it. Info on what the firewall is would prolly be helpful but I would love to be able to run a script that lets me choose from a number of diffrent settings... reasonably described... that lets me configure the firewall for my network and get the system locked-down. I don;t know exactly how secure Slack 9.1 is immediately post-install.... but i'm sure it's fairly vanilla in the security department. Scripting a security lock-down system would help alot of newbies to linux... or the folks that aren't too up-and-up on security... get their system fairly secure with a minumum of hassle.

Anyone got any ideas or scripts they have made up that they wouldn;t mind GPL'n to the community?
