Dr. Love 73, about adobe reader 9.x
I have sent my feedback to adobe, regarding the file open window and print window as previously mentioned in my earlier post. I don't think it will be of any use but did it in case----------?
with regards

Probably not, if the backlog of complaints seen at http://dearadobe.com is anything to go by.
Though at time of typing this, the site was having some technical problems.

Quicken

My need for the 20+ years of data I have invested in this program is what keeps me from moving completely to Linux.

I couldn't convince a lot of people to switch over to linux because their accounting software has a locked and proprietary format, and asking them to re-enter everything in gnucash was out of the question.

I'm sure there are many of us in the same boat. I tried importing into gnucash using a Quicken.qif file but I received an error at line 1065 and that was it. No suggestion on how to overcome this or an option to continue anyway. I checked the line with a text editor and could find nothing wrong with it so after a few more tries I gave up. As you say re-entering everything was not an option.

I use Quicken Deluxe 2009. I know first hand that it and Deluxe 2008 will work flawlessly in Wine, including printing checks. I do not use it for any on-line services. I also don't know if Quickbooks will work or not. I've been using Quicken in Wine for about a year.

3ds max

I would love to see autodesk 3ds max ported over. Everying else autodesk programs such as maya, softimage, smoke, flame, etc run on linux. You can only get 3ds max 7 to run in wine so It would be great to see 3ds max ported over.

Crysis

Crysis too. Probably run cicles around the windows version because there is no bloatware in linux like widows.

Dear waywardf4now google apps for linux in general are way away lacking in features than their windows counterpart. google earth and google maps are the glaring examples. Of course M/s google may come back and say we have not invited people to use our software. They think they are obliging we linux users. So either take their products as it is or leave. Drivers for sound, video graphic cards from all manufacturers sail in the same boat. This is the main reason, I am afraid is the main cause that is coming in the way of linux. This also is one of the main reasons why people shun away, and a vary valid one too.
regards to all

Apparently you don't. If you respected the integrity if this site you would have chosen the correct subforum.

Google / Sketchup

rss:

Back in 1999 when I worked for a small software company called "Red Hat", the Founder, Bob Young, asked all employees to use this new start up company called "Google", for in-house and Internet searches. Seems he had devoted his time and company resources giving them assistance. Google would never have made it off the ground if they had to pay license fees to MicroSoft upfront.

So, it is that regard, given that their good fortune was having a Linux community willing to assist and provide FOSS tools for them to develop their business model from, that I feel stiffed when I have to use wine in order to use their software. Wine works, but sucks for being SLOW. Me, I need to use sketchup for my own project development, and that is one royal pain in the tail, when I consider from whence Google's deliverance originated. wayward4now: Many thanks for shedding some light on google. How people change! They have used redhat as a stepping stone. Too bad.
I have also noticed that as compared to google and yahoo some 10 years back, one does not get relevant info on many topics. This is my observation, which shows that they are no different from ordinary traders.
Many thanks and regards
