1. Faststone - default full screen image; editing tools, image strip, photo spec.s, etc etc appear by touching screensides with cursor, which itself is magnifier to click anytime.
2. Quicknote - (not QuickNote). When opened, sleeps as a little bar at screentop, wakes on touch, opacity, theme etc. as you wish, Contextmenu live links to note...
Packed with other tools for the curious. A work of programming art.
3. Printscreen - One-key Capture whole screen/client window/rectangle to documents and carry on working.
All exemplary in their field, and perfectly configurable to taste, haven't seen their equal; free, but worth a donation.
Since jumping ship from xp, if i had these 3 running, I'd be having a much easier time than I am boarding the good ship Linux.

Reason: clarity, elaboration
I would like to know if there is an international keyboard in any Linux distro. In win 98, the United States International keyboard allows diacriticals to be typed in rather than using some sort of copy and paste arrangement. This or something similar would be fine.
Or. a keyboard selection feature that would allow quick switching to those keyboards that have the needed diacriticals. And yes. I want to quickly switch back to an American keyboard since other keyboards have key positions switched around.
In Ubuntu, you can select the "USA Alternative International (former us_intl)" layout for you keyboard.
since I gave up windows I have sorely missed Goldwave as my audio file editor. I have had mixed results under wine (works/does not work) depending on the version of wine. I check the site from time to time but no luck.
Audacity in the fedora distribution is so sawn off and cumbersome to configure it's not worth the effort. I gave up on that a long time ago. Rezound is the closest thing but that project is also well out of step with the current distributions.
Hi rayfward, you might try Audacity again. I use it now, and it is my audio record/edit program of choice...yeah, this is something of a learning curve, eve now, but it's well worth the effort. If you are looking for a stable audio platform to run, you might try OpenSuse 11.0 (if you can still download the ISO), then, after install, use Yast to install the rt kernel. This is a pretty bullet-proof, easily maintained distro. I do remember GoldWave, and although I have fond memories of it, I'm now in love with Audacity.

Hi Joey45. I am having open suse10.2. Audacity here shows mic as the only input for recording. hence is not of much use for recording from analog audio cssatte decks. It is also pain to install audacity 1.26 as it requires so many other packages like particular version of gtk and other packages. I have downloaded audacity 1.26 but could not install it because of these reasons.
Anyway thanks for a reply and good info.

Hi all.
Thanks for the heads up on this. Interesting that some one else had problems with recording sources configuration. Since this is rapidly evolving into a question I think I'll move on to searching the forum for advice. Any links gratefully accepted.
This thread is for letting vendors know that there is interest in porting one of their programs to Linux. Let us know what programs you would like to see ported and why. Details such as how much you would be willing to pay may be helpful as well. If there is enough interest for certain programs I will even contact the vendor myself.

I know this is not likely, seeing as Apple is Apple, but if Itunes could be ported , it would be amazing! All of the other iPod syncing applications for iPod mess up, etc.
along with 7zip.exe in i386.rpm found out that this 7zip is available in .rpm. However it is a good program to for example condence large audio files which persons whom have recorded concerts can make their music able to play on regular CD or dvd.
context.exe the HTML editor abilities of ms word and such are either to complicated or to simple this is a great program for those in computer classes involving HTML files to use in editing
for EDVO phone companies such as Cricket which I have seen grow in the markets considerably can attain many more users than just those on windows and apple computers
also some of these cellular phone companies offer internet through a edvo modem but they are only for windows/mach
they may load using wine or such but don't actually work

Hi Jlinkels I know audacity does have mic, line-in etc inputs. However version of audacity native to my open suse boxed pack 10.2 o.s. does not have that. It only shows mic as the only input.
many thanks for your response

I have just moved from windows to ubuntu.
I want spore, the game.
I need Juno, the email system, preferably not the most recent edition, but anything that works will do.
I need a printer driver for canon pixma ip 1500 that does not have errors in the makefile or detailed instructions on getting to that make file. I do not know how to access the command line yet.
Help

Support for my favorite games: Masters of Orion (one and II)
a way to find if the distrobution has a component and what rev that component is would be very useful.
