I'd like to get TaxCut and TurboTax ported to linux, if they did, maybe I could get my dad to switch to linux (GnuCash isnt enough) .

The real hinderance to that is not the tax processing engine, but rather the forms. Who in the open source community is informed about tax law, and would be willing to continually update changes to the forms?

How about something like Cakewalk Sonar, Steinberg Cubase, Sony Acid and other auido/midi sequencing software? I'd like to turn to Linux as my only platform but the lack of this type of software makes it my only reason to stay on XP. I'm still trying to learn Linux though because it shouldn't be long before something like Rosegarden (the linux software) evolves enough for me to leave clutches of the Redmond empire.

Just what I'd like to see...

.WAV, MIDI, .MP3 recording, editing and mixing

I would like to see a Linux-native version of Cool-Edit 2000 or similar. .WAV, MIDI, .MP3 recording, editing and mixing. Something I can just install without having to jump through a lot of hoops.

With my family budget, 'though, I can't go higher than $100.00 -150.00 max

The problem with Flash is that we don't get updated as fast as M$ & Mac. Version 9 is only, just now, available and some sites are telling me that I have to have version 10.

What sites are these?

Flash player 10 doesn't even exist! If sites are demanding that you use a product that doesn't even exist then you need to contact the site administrator.

Where does the open source community come in here? This program is a commercial product, nothing to do with the open source community.

The product already exists, and is already kept updated, so evidently someone is willing to update it!

For my tastes, they'll have to work really hard on Rosegarden to make it even acceptable. I am not impressed. So far, the only thing I have found that works even marginally is Audacity. Ardour is a complete joke, mostly because of the need for jack audio. Talk about a buggy piece of crap! Sheesh!

I tried to use it on a project I had already finished under Cool Edit Pro, and it slowed every file. It was horrible! I have never removed a program so quickly!

Maybe one of these days, someone will answer my digital prayer for a decent audio program. Hell, if they'd just add active pan envelopes to Audacity, that would go miles in bringing it close to acceptable. It's so close as it is, I just can't imagine they'd not go that one extra step.

Blessed be!

Can I hear an AMEN! Oh yes, Cool Edit Pro is the stuff! I hope that someone somewhere can grab the source code and do the magic required to port it to Linux! I also hope that person doesn't fall into the jack audio trap! Bah humbug on that garbage!

Blessed be!

Ummm, there is a reason that its called "WINDOWS movie maker"

Those two movie makers suck on the platforms they are intended for.

SAM Broadcaster

As a DJ/station owner, I find that I'm unable to properly DJ on my station due to the fact that I use Linux. Right now the only solutions I can find are to use a virtual machine, set up a dual boot system, or use Nullsoft's automated playlist streamer. I'd love to see Sam Broadcaster ported to *nix in the future.

Id love to see Catia/Delmia ported to Linux, I know theres is a Linux version of Unigraphics(which is pretty much as powerfull) but Unigraphics is hell compared to the wonderful usability of Catia.

Also it would be nice to have Macromedia Flash ported. I know you can run it with wine but I havnt been able(maybe cause I used an instalation in a Vista box?)

I'm curious, what features of text pad have you so stuck on it?

I have been testing a ton of editors lately on both windows and Linux and of all the editors on windows I like and wish I could have on linux, textpad wasn't one of them lol
