I would like to see all the Macromedia products, Adobe Photoshop, Jasc Paint Shop & Animation Shop, AOL ( I have like 300 friends there lol), StopZilla (I know I know, I just like it)... Mmmm thats about it.

Robert0380 10-22-2003 01:38 AM

all Adobe and Macromedia stuff

DOS Navigator or DN OSP. Midnight Commander is nice but a Linux Navigator would blow it away. And it's already open source!

Alright, maybe this is a stupid question, but if there is a Mac OSX version of a program, wouldn't it be really easy for a software maker to port it to linux?

Oh, and you can add me to the Photoshop, Dreamweaver list.
It looks like adobe has already ported some of their other products to *nix platforms (other than reader). http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...KB2R4AVDJBKIV2

I would like to see GP3 or GP4 from the Geoff Crammond team ported to linux . I wonder why nobody talks about it ?

jamaso 10-22-2003 04:28 AM

I messed things up jeremy my previous post ought to be in the games thread . Anyways the program i really would like to see ported to linux is Autocad (>$6000), but i know of a enormity of cad programs less sofisticated (< expensive) than autocad that authors would maybe be interested in seeing their software being pushed to a new level under linux with the help of the community .

BTW i just thought about GPL and it occur to me that porting anything to linux would necessarily bring openness of their code and the possibility of downloading it freely from the web ?

I'm sure these were already brought up. Of course the Macromedia Collection, Office XP (I know but it would help for corporate users such as myself). Quicken, Quickbooks, several accounitng packages.

Thanks,

BiG

Quicken!!

bigdogg 10-22-2003 05:41 PM

sure why not:) I have clients who run it. I would love to see clients begin too use linux. But they can't until I can show them they can use all there normal business applications with linux.

MS Money and MS Street and Trips.

DEFINITELY Quicken. I'm currently running it on both my Win2K and RH9 partitions, but on RH I had to install the Codeweaver crossover (wine just didn't do it).

Also, I've got a real thing for Nero, the linux cd ripping & burning proggies just don't have the same functionality as this one, nor are they quite as easy to use (read: if I didn't have someone to hold my hand and walk me through it!).

Winuae, gpl.

Yes, there is uae for linux, but is no more developed and is getting far behind winuae.

They wouldn't have to release stuff under the GPL. It makes things more compatible if you build them from source, but look at OpenOffice - it takes more than 10 hours to compile, so most people just download the binaries. Also, there are many commercial programs for Linux, it's just that most people don't use them because there are free alternatives.

Add me to the Paint Shop Pro list.

Try K3B! I had always missed Nero, until I found it. It's better! It's as easy to use, and it does one extra great thing, which I have NEVER seen any burning program do - it can record secret tracks in the track 1 pre-gap. SECRET TRACKS IN THE TRACK 1 PRE-GAP!!!!! YAAAAH!!!

You're the second person to suggest this program. I hate to bother my beau with every little compilation/installation question (he is currently building a log cabin home up in Tahoe), so I'll do a search and if you're amenable I'll be hitting you up for answers. Quick question: in Nero you're able to play around with sound and recording levels, could there be a chance K3B has this functionality as well?

Oops! Forgot to close my code..
<sm, so used to UBB.. sheesh>
