Who would want "Internet Exploder" on thier Linux box as a primary browser??
You people don't really understand that MS products won't be ported to Linux.....To me thats the whole point behind Linux, its to forget MS. I still wouldn't mind seeing a better Photoshop program, Gimp is ok...but people have gotten used to the Photoshop layout. I also want to see ImageReady...It'd be handy to have, it won't run on Wine either :( |
Re:
most people are not technically inclined
most don't even know what linux is - and that includes IT staff, teachers, technical support helplines looks like i am exagerating? just ask anyone in the street - do a survey people still equate computers with windows so a lot of innocence is to be expected if the rare occasion happens of such user migrating i say its a bonus and i say we should go very very easy on the complete non-technical newcomer. people never seen another browser but internet explorer and got extremely used to it not everyone are smart whizz kids like us :) if you are understanding and patient you won't scare these people running back into windows one utterly non-technical person that migrates to linux is one wave of spam less to worry about their pcs are hosts to these things and obviously they are not aware. go gentle ok? .. i dont mind flaming "experienced" people - that is alright :p |
I agree

also be great to see macromedia porting their gear. |
The coolest command I've ever seen is also the simplest: on the Mac command-line, you can say "open file" and it'll Do The Right Thing (figure out how to open it, pull it up, make coffee, etc.).
I think Windows has something similar too: you can just type the filename on the command line and it'll pick the right software to open it. It still surprises me that the Linux command line, usually so powerful, can't do that by default (yes, I know you can turn on options in the kernel that'll let you do this, but even that doesn't work as well as the Mac version). iTunes
or someone make gtkpod usable it is pathethic as of now. Winamp or any audio/video player that does not crash like totem or xmms and such I saw winamp for linux the other day but does not look good. I never thought I will use real player and it is a sad statement when M$ media player 10 is also better than anything on Linux platform by factor of 10 in terms of out of the box usability and features. Seriously it is a shame of the whole open source community not to be able to write anything that just works on majority of formats you have to get real player for that yuck. Anything else hmm for me I would love with something like all of adobe software and we would happy like piggies. Direct x 9 :D |

also BTW if you really want that functionality in X on Linux, do some searching on this board - I think there was a script or utility discussed a couple of weeks ago which offers similar functionality in Linux. |
what about port the game Warcraft 3 to linux?? i like this game very much and i imagine it won't be easy.. but this will really be a revolution for the players of this game. Lineage 2 is a good game too, think about it....
