This seems incredibly harsh. I can understand a professional wanting some of the functionality that photoshop provides and GIMP doesn't (although at a considerably higher price), but the only reason I can see for preferring paint to gimp is if you want something very simple, and in that case you wouldn't want photoshop either.

I agree...I don't get it, GIMP is a million miles beyond Paint.

That's the problem with Gimp, to do something easy (don't confuse me, I learned both at the same time and I know both quite well) anyway, when you do something easy in gimp, it takes a lot of steps, it becomes a task, it is no longer a quick 10 second thing.. photoshop doesn't have that issue, that's where paint beats gimp, because it has nothing complex so of course it's easy.. But even photoshop with all of its tools, CS6 even.. it keeps easy stuff easy. There's no reason to require so much knowledge just to do beginner things.

Example before I'm asked.. super simple things like grabbing pixels out of an image, moving an image on the canvas.. resizing an image, gimp is harsh when it comes to resizing and even then you have to resize both the canvas and the image.

Perhaps adding something like the MediaWiki's rating extension so people could vote for which program they'd want on Linux. Isn't that what the OP actually had in mind? Perhaps just a bit differently structured.

Though, I think it should be made so that forum members could at least vote on wiki pages ... and not need a separate user account for that.

how much would I pay? Same thing I pay for them on MSWindoze....
But they would have to be as well developed as MS versions.
And it's not my preference. I'm a CAD manager / System Admin for a design firm. I have most my server stuff running on CentOS, love it. But my users need AuotCAD and my graphics guy would try to strangle me if I took his Photoshop away no matter how good gimp is. I've fooled around with running them both in a Vbox VM but I still have to pay for a MSwindoze licence to make it work.

Don't know Clementine, have used SongBirds before. Liked it very much except for one deal-breaker: When your library becomes large (in excess of 1000 songs) SB slows to a crawl - becoming unresponsive for most tasks (e.g. just changing the view to display another filter). I think it's because it uses Mozilla's built-in SQLite database for indexing the files - not too great when the index becomes huge.

At present, my favorite on Windows must be FooBar! It's got absolutely everything SongBird has (even if you install every single addon songbird ever had, foobar's got hundreds more), only in comparison to SB ... FB is FAST!!!! Even with my lib of 65000+ songs there is no wait for anything - all lengthy operations (like normalizing volume) runs as background processes, so the whole thing doesn't hog down for anything (unlike SB which hogs down when picking a new song to play).

But the thing which made me absolutely LOVE FB: FB's so customizable as to enable you to make it look and work any way you like without needing to know any programming. These custom setups are even exportable, some users have then uploaded their customizations so you can pick from already done ideas. There are several which make FB into a look-and-feel exactly like iTunes.

Unfortunately FB's owner refuses to move it to Linux. So I don't think we'll ever see it's absolutely AWESOME customizing interface

IMO, it is simply the most effective and powerful way to have any form of customization I've ever seen in any program! I mean: set the customization mode on, and edit the UI directly on the UI by dragging panels around to rearrange to your heart's content / right-lick delete / insert panels, change the formats of what each panel displays, add tabs, different views, etc. etc. etc. It's like having a full graphic IDE as the customization feature.

Maybe something for Photography such as PSE (Photoshop elements) the intelligent used of Microprocessor on Linux would be VERY helpful in photography editing and so on....
