What programs come with SuSE Linux?
What programs come with SuSE Linux? Such as, in Windows you have paint, Calculator, address book, note pad character map, and Microsoft office.

OpenSUSE.org keeps a list of the included software. If you have limited linux experience it may not mean much. You could check that list against this http://www.linuxrsp.ru/win-lin-soft/table-eng.html
edit: If they keep a package list it seems well hidden. Typical linux documentation perhaps. Anyway check this http://www.linuxcdmall.com/suse-10.0-i386-disk1.html Interestingly openSUSE.org DOES have a link to software NOT included (it's in the downloads area). Go figure. |
distrowatch also keeps a list of programs in each distro including version numbers. However, you can install missing programs later if you want

This is of course a big advantage of the typical Linux distro---it comes with a bunch of free apps. |
It is not what comes with SuSE that is important, but what you can easily install to SuSE. And that is just about anything. That is with your Yast sources properly edited. You need only type in the name of the app you desire and it will be downloaded and installed. You can also update it to the lattest version this way.
Anyways to answer your question, SuSE comes with all standard Kde, and Gnome apps, and most games, 3d exceleration for your graphics card is also found on the first update (if you check the box for it) and SuSE has just about all the popular 3d games. PS I have tried just about any Linux distro there is, except Slack haven't got to it yet, and i keep coming back to SuSE mainly because it has the best hardware detection and support there is bar none. This is important because most trouble many have with nix is hardware related and with SuSE you will have less issues, a good choice for sure. |
