What other scripts and files are used by a program

Hi everyone
I have to work on a python program which uses a number of scripts and programs from the same directory. It also reads and writes a number of files and and finally produces a single output file. Please help me if a tool is available which can report which programs are being called at what point of execution.
I will appreciate any type of help
