what is the best video player to play mkv files
do not suggest VLC because i read on the official mkv site and several others that vlc shouldn't be used to play mkv files because they glitch sometimes
i have heard that mplayer was a good mkv viewer but for some reason the voices aren't there anymore (they are in vlc but it glitches) what is the best video player that can be used to play mkv files |
The voices ? You mean the audio ?
mplayer is the best, IMO, but any should work as long as you have new versions. Make sure you have all the multimedia libs installed, especially faad. |
I used VLC to play MKV (to be honest - on Win7 platform). No issues recorded.

VLC player
I have read many things, good and bad, about VLC player. While it may have some technical issues, I think most of the traffic is in the nature of religious argument. IF it works, why not use it.

i have some mkv files that use a newer codec of divx so whenever it plays like 30 seconds into the show it starts to glitch, any way of at least converting it to an avi to i can burn it to dvd or put it on my portable media player
|
When you talk about vitually any app you have to mention the version that you are running. VLC has run mkvs prretty well for a while. What will make it glitch is a slow connection(more data than pipe can flow) or some other improperly configured data path(HD malfunctioning).

okay i know i'm ressurecting an old thread but i feel this is appropriate
the videos use mkv divx 5.2 the ones that play flawlessly are divx 5.1 any way of playing these without a glitch or converting them all the other converters (both linux and windows) have just made the video go off sync (this time worse) |
okay i know i am ressurecting an old thread but now i think i know what to talk about
the version of VLC I'm using is 1.1.3 The Luggage under Debian gcc version 4.4.5 with a qt4 interface and the format of the videos that glitch are .mkv with a DivX 5.1 codec the ones with DivX 5.1 codec play flawlessly any way of making it play better (Linux software) or at least converting them to avi so i don't need an entirely different media player other than VLC but if i have no choice but to stop using VLC then so be it |
What have you tried to convert them ? What commands, what programs ?
|
i just extracted the video with the mkvextract command and it is playing really quickly under any video format i extract it to but the video player says that it's streaming i don't understand whats going on here
