What is System.map for?
 

I have upgraded the kernel. Someone tells me I didn't have to copy System.map to /boot. I wonder if it's true. What is System.map for?

As its name says Syatem.map is the map of system (kernel). It's used by developers (and sometimes to report bugs). There is a high chance you'll never need to think about this file.
