What is mline?

I have a script that I have to work with, and one of the lines is

while read MLINE

However, I don't know what mline is. Can anyone tell me?

MLINE is the variable they're assigning the input that follows the read. Typically such input comes from the command line.

Later lines in the script should be referring to the variable as $MLINE.

Should have mentioned that MLINE is an arbitrary name. You could use SPIFF and $SPIFF instead if you wanted.
