what is linux command to open new terminal?
Is there a command that will open a new terminal window? I am asking because I am using hummingbird exceed in passive mode and want to open a new terminal without telneting into it. I am using a derivative of RH distro.
Any help? Thanks! |
I don't know how it's done in gnome, but it may be similar to the Kde way of doing it.
Control Center - Regional & Accessibility - Keyboard shortcuts. There may be a shortcut defined. In Kde in Suse 9.3, the shortcut is: Alt-F1 (main menu) Then: Up and Down arrow keys to select a menu. Enter key (may also need right arrow) to move right to next menu. Left arrow to move back. When you get to the console item in the menu, press enter to start it. |
Using Konsole in KDE, I can type "konsole" and another terminal will open.
In your GUI, you can find out the command associated with an application by right-clicking on the application shortcut and then "configure". This for KDE--I'm sure Gnome has some similar function. |
There are several possibilities - it depends which are installed. Most likely xterm is available. If not, try these: gnome-terminal, konsole, Eterm, aterm, rxvt.
