what is /lib/libcrypt?

Hi all
I'm developing an application that must encrypt some data.
I've found in my system a library called libcrypt.so in /lib, but I can't find any documentation.

What is this library and where can I found the APIs?
(it is obvious that googling did not give any results)

Thank you!

I believe that's the LUKS library, recently renamed to libcryptsetup.so (http://code.google.com/p/cryptsetup/...yptsetup110rc1) so that the API should be documented in libcryptsetup.h

'libcrypt.so.X.x is from the package 'glibc'

The latest version /lib/libcrypt-2.10.1.so is from glibc-2.10.1 .
The link libcrypt.so is most often /usr/lib/libcrypt.so

There is not much info to find in the glibc documentation,
.. or is it is just difficult to find ...

Suggest : look into the glibc source code for answers.
