What DVD burneres do you guys use?

EDIT: I just saw I posted this in the wrong forum. Is there a way to move it? :l
Hello, I'm using ubuntu 12.10
I've gone through several DVD movies trying to get them to play on my Playstation 2 or regular DVD player.
DVDS burned in windows worked fine on my ps2 and regular DVD player, but the ps2 gives me some weird error and the dvd players tells me there's no play function.
The DVD is recognized fine on my computer, with menus and everything, and it plays fine too.

I used deeveedee to create the ISO and Nero4 to burn the image since deeveedee wasn't giving me the option to burn after it was done transcoding. The file I'm trying to burn is in an .avi format.
If I have to, can I burn a DVD using a virtualized windows7?

Thanks for all help!

Are you sure this is the fault of the burner and not the blank media?

Both my desktop computer and laptop read the DVDs just fine.
My desktop is using ubuntu 12.10 and my laptop is using ubuntu 12.04
I just played the DVD in a virtualized windows 7 environment just fine too, windows media player automotically played it.

Most likely explanation: the blank media is incompatible with the PS2 and the regular DVD player. Early model PS2s were particularly notorious for this.

Hmm, that could be it, but if I remember correctly, Ive burned movies onto the same types of DVDs on windows as Im using in linux and they played fine on on linux, windows, ps2 and regular dvd players.
i know on windows there was times where i would forget to make the menu autoplay and that would cause it to not work on my ps2, but i cant find any option along those lines on deeveedee.

Just press the Report button on the first post and ask a moderator to move it to the forum you want it to be.

I use K9copy to create the ISO and then write it to disk using Brasero in GNOME or I use K9copy to create the ISO and write it to disk using K3B in KDE. Which ever distro or graphical interface I use I always use k9copy to create ISOs.

Some DVDs have regional codes that prevent them from playing in some countries

Good luck to you!

I also prefer K3B.

I have had it successfully burn usable discs with files that Brasero refused to burn.

Brasero is bad. Once I burn Some Important data to a disk with Brasero very carefully, Then Removed files from my Desktop (Partitioning resean). After a long Time I needed The files But all files in all copies were damaged and I Lost theme for ever....
