what does this c represent


in this line what does the c represent
crw-rw---- 1 root root 178, 0 Mar 25 2001 /dev/mga_vid

I am getting this error when running gmplayer can't open /dev/mga_vid permission denied

c: character device, like a video card
b: block device, like a storage device
d: subdirectory
l: symbolic link
-: normal file
