What does the "Default" in the Abiword status line stand for?

The Abiword window, like that of most word processors, has a status line at the bottom. To the right side of it you can see the keyboard mode (Insert/Overwrite), then the word "Default" and then the language in use.

What characteristic exactly does "Default" refer to? It doesn't change when I change the style, font, text alignment or script direction. I've looked in the Abiword documentation and have found several accounts of the status line that describe everything else on it but not that.

In OpenOffice, it shows the page type: default, first, left, right, index, etc. Try right-clicking on it to see if it gives you options.

No, right-clicks don't work. And Abiword doesn't use page styles, only paragraph styles. Guess again!

This is an interesting problem, although I don't know why: Abiword isn't powerful enough for me to use.

This page shows the bar, with no explanation of "default"

but this source documentation looks promising

Looking at the diagram, could "default" refer to the "language" box?

It probably refers to the default Save format.
