What codecs do I need to play Apple Quicktime (MPEG-4 .mov format) videos?

Quick Question:
What plug-ins or codecs do I need to install to play Quicktime videos in the .mov format? I have Kaffiene and KMPlayer and both give the same symptoms when I try to play a quicktime video as the time when I was trying to play MP3 files without an MPEG codec.

Thanks,
BigFoot

The W32 codecs should do it, that will also let you play windows media files as well.

I already have those codecs. Is there something else I need to install?

This is the full error I get:

Code:
xine: cannot find input plugin for MRL [rtsp://a58.qt1vod.kamai.net/3/58/52/44ef3e0b/1a1a1aa11086ef54c7f566da507edf4fbf2b90be2190fd2c99087ee74cbfee51b81b92f8279c0b7e/uos2_1000.mov]
xine: input plugin cannot open MRL [rtsp://a58.qt1vod.kamai.net/3/58/52/44ef3e0b/1a1a1aa11086ef54c7f566da507edf4fbf2b90be2190fd2c99087ee74cbfee51b81b92f8279c0b7e/uos2_1000.mov]
xine: found input plugin : rtsp streaming input plugin
xine: found demuxer plugin: Apple Quicktime (MOV) and MPEG-4 demux plugin
xine: found input plugin : file input plugin
KMPlayer does nothing like it did when I didn't have MPEG codecs. I have tried all three player engines, but got nothing. Xine at least gives me an error.

I could be misreading something, but line 4 seems to suggest it's finding the quicktime plugin, but it doesn't think this is the one the file needs. I'm not sure what to do to fix this though.

Well, I usually use Xine, but I was having problems playing .mov files. Specifically, I was getting green and red noise on the bottom third of the image.

Since I use Ubuntu, I consulted the "restricted formats" page of their wiki and found this:

Quote:
The best support for MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 (for example, encoded with DivX, XviD or FFmpeg MPEG-4), QuickTime and other proprietary or non-free media formats is currently provided by Totem-xine, Kaffeine, gxine, and MPlayer. Playing Windows Media Video (WMV) or RealVideo files requires a software library that Ubuntu cannot distribute due to licensing restrictions (see Windows Codecs below for installation instructions).
I then tried Mplayer and had no problems at all.

I use KMPlayer, but Kaffeine didn't work either. The error above is what Kaffeine gives me. I will try some of the other players.
