What are the best network backup solutions available on the Earth

Hi,

I would like to implement a centralized network backup solution (open source and community edition). We have more than 300 servers (both windows and linux) in which backup is to be done via a centralized server. I have searched a lot of softwares, including Amanda and Bacula. But we could not use Amanda due to the community edition lacking support of MSSQL. I'm currently testing Bacula. I'm not sure whether Bacula can take MSSQL backup.

Our requirements are:
  • Open source and community edition
  • Web based management console
  • Backup Reporting
  • Role-based administration
  • Should support MSSQL,MySQL,Postgresql hot backup.

Is there any other software you recommend that meets the above requirement?

I had issues getting the damned thing to take a hotbackup. I was unwilling to enable the Volume Shadow Copy on my client's host that I believe is needed for hot MSSQL backups using bacula.

Today, I try for OS-level, or an internal MSSQL export of the MSSQL db(s) and let bacula backup that dump outside of the MSSQL instance|data directory.

Good luck.
