Thanks guys! No more hair pulling! rshaw, downloader for X looks promising I'll give have to give it a test drive.

Note: now giving downloader for X a test drive even as I speak , so far it works as advertised. Installation was easy and stright forward. A nice app for anybody looking for a gozilla type of downloader.

Double that with doing it from a screen session and you won't have to worry about accidentally closing the terminal, logging out of an SSH session, or X crashing.
