Question Weird Screen Shaking in X

Hey everyone...

I'm a Debian user, and I've just started to notice a strange shaking effect...

It's only started happening in the last few days, since I got my internet connection up and running. It twitches left and right, randomly, sometimes there's a few minutes between twitches, then it will do it several times. It does not do it in any of the terminal screens.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce MX 4000 with the nvidia driver version 6111. Could this possibly be some kind of virus? I doubted it at first, but I can't find any other explanation for it.

Cheers,
Aaron

I don't think it's a virus...(hey,a linux virus in the wild? wow! would be fun!)

Much more probably it's your monitor that's going to leave you and reach the Great Monitor In The Sky... they seem clear symptoms of stress of a monitor. It doesn't happens with your terminal screens because resoluton and refresh are higher in X than in a terminal, putting more stress to your monitor.

Anyway if you think it's some software problem, try using the VESA drivers for a while and see if we can rule out it's nVidia related.

Thanks for that...

No, I don't think it's a monitor problem, as it worked fine on FC3 and Debian on my old dual head matrox card... well who knows, my monitor could be near the end of its days....

At least we live on one of the steepest hills in the world, so we could roll it down and film it.. then i can upgrade to a 21" widescreen *drool*

thanks for that, just wanted 2 get a second opinion!

Cheers,
Aaron
