webmail discussion

I'm trying to get a discussion going please give some input.

I have been wondering if there is any administrators out there that have been successful at getting there users to completely switch over to webmail, and throw away outlook, Evolution or what ever it is they might be using and going with some sort of web based email like openexchange or squirrelmail.

Thanks,
AD

Im not an administrator but our office only uses webmail and we get along fine. We use mailreader as a front end for exim. Works out just fine for us. But I also have to add that email is not mission critical for our jobs, none of us need calendars/addressbooks/support for windows filetypes. We are actually an all Linux shop in the first place running bladePC's and terminals at the desktop, pretty schlick if you ask me.

It probably depends on how email intensive the company is.

I've worked for companies that have their entire day center around the email system- notifying when new email arrives, booking conference rooms, checking co-workers schedules, making meeting appointments, checking your daily schedule etc... and I've worked for others which barely use email. I only have experience with squirrelmail but there surely isn't functionality there for schedule management.
