Web Development Software

Hi,

I just installed Mandrake 10.1 and want to get rid of my Windows partition. One thing which is holding me back is programming/web programming/web design. What are some good programs do perform these tasks? I'd like to do more programming (web) in php or asp, but need a good editor as I do not know the language very well. Thanks.

If you are looking for a "click-and-run" programming environment, I am sorry, I dunno. But the standard GNU editors (vi/vim/emacs) have a lot of syntax highlighting stuff in it.

It is never a bad idea to learn the bits behind HTML, CSS and PHP, anyway. Maybe you can continue using the W32 tools in wine?

HTH,

Peter

Have a look at quanta and/or bluefish. They are two very good html editors (but not limited to html).

Quanta+ works well enough for me, it does focus on php development too.

Bluefish is a nice GTK app.

SCREEM I've experiemented with too.

I just prefer Quanta the most of those three for Linux.

I vote for Quanta too. It has code highlighting and some autocompletion. I use it for (X)HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript and so on.

For a few more, see

-> Softwares
-> Web Publishing

I always hear of positive comments about Bluefish,
but never really use it.
