Opera is the best

I have used them all and I find opera the best, lots of really cool features and you can choose from hundreds of skins to change the look of the browser.

Thank you for your reply...Sure enough there it is! On my RH 8

I was looking at the red hat menu -> Internet -> and I only saw Web browser which turned out to be Mozilla.

But I tried red hat -> extras -> Internet -> and there I saw Konqueror Web Browser.

Thanks for the help.

About Opera -

Earlier on I was attempting to install Opera on a different Linux distribution, an older one, and I saw the error message that there were missing dependencies.

error libXm.so.2 is needed by opera
libqt.so.3 is needed by opera

...

What are these files and what does a newbie do to find them?

I haven't tried installing Opera on my Red Hat, which I use most often.

Tell me about it. Missing dependencies is going to be one of your biggest headaches, however, if you know where to look for them, then it is not that bad.

These files are core libraries that opera needs to run. In order to find them it all depends on the distro that you are using (Red Hat, Slackware, etc). One way is to just type the library name into google and do a search. Or find some sites that have rpms or source packages like freshrpms.net (there are more but I don't know them off the top of my head). As for Installing Opera on Red Hat 8.0 just go to opera.com and get the rpm and you are all set. I bet if you look on opera you will be able to find a link to get your missing libraries as well.

If you are using the KDE desktop, then use Konqueror... especially if you have upgraded to at least KDE3.1.2 and have the tabbed browser feature available. Konqueror does the job OK, no more, but integrates perfectly with the KDE system.

If you are using GNOME or something else, use anything BUT konqueror!!! It'll stick out like a sore thumb!

I love Opera... the opera support page has some links where you can find the missing dependencies... I know one of them is just netscape plugins (sorry, can't remember which one). It does crash rarely, when I try to do funky things with it, but it seems to be a lot faster than Konqueror. It's worth installing the dependencies (you'll probably need them sooner or later anyway) and it's pretty easy to get Flash to work.

I finaly got a chance to try firebird, using it right now, and I like it alot, it's a tossup between firebird and opera.

I like firebird, it is lightweight, cleaner than Mozilla, and has some cool themes. I use Konqueror as my file manager but I found firebird to be a bit faster when it comes to browsing the web. But really all I need are tabs.

I too, ran into the same thing. Here's what I found out according to Opera's website:

====================
Failed dependency: libXm.so.2

Platform: GNU/Linux
Opera 5.05 (and newer) for Linux requires that you have Motif (libXm.so.2) installed on your system if you want Netscape plugin support:
http://www.opera.com/linux/docs/plugins/install/motif/
If you do not wish to use Netscape plugins, you can force an install, as Motif is only used for Netscape plugins.
====================

If you follow that link, Opera offers the plugins for given packages, but what package does SuSE 9.1 follow?
