wanting to set up uae

So I've been trying to set up UAE in linux. I used the windows version ages ago but eventually had to stop using it because it crashed a lot (taking windows with it, naturally). The configuration/startup procedure for uae seems to be the same as in winuae: point it to the rom file, the hard drive image file, set CPU and gfx options, go. Only thing is, it doesn't work. The second uae window comes up ... but it remains black. Now at this point, I have no idea why so I decided to reduce the scope of the problem. I ran uae again, with no hard disk image and no floppy image. On the windows version, this would cause it to display the amiga rom animation of the disk being inserted. I do not get this animation, so the cause of the problem I guess is not the HD image, but I am kinda clueless at this point. I am am currently using the linux binary version of uae on slackware 11.

You might want to try E-UAE instead. The last I'd heard, the original UAE hasn't had much in the way of recent development. This forked version is much more actively developed, and they're trying to add more of the features WinUAE has. I don't think it's quite up to the same level yet though.

Sounds perfect! I will try that. Thanks. If I have a problem with that I'll start a new thread.
