WANTED jack + alsa aware 1970s style speak and spell synthesis

i would like my linux to speak and spell files... i have flight going, but idk its not as gangster as the 1980s toy.

i would also like a stephen hawking style speech synth, for the use of music production

i know the toy is probably very simple and emulation of the toy would also be rather simple... would like a circuit bent version if possible (see youtube for robot sounds XD)

I used to play with an application called Festival to translate text into speech. It can be configured to use the pronunciation of various regions. You can probably create an artificial voice pronunciation scheme for it.
