Question Want a dock along right edge rather than bottom edge

My Acer Aspire 150aw netbook has a high width to height ratio. Runs Linpus Light with 120 Gbyte harddrive. My Mac Book permits me to place my dock on right edge, which is more convenient for the work I usually do (documents and emails) as the effect is to lower this ratio a bit.

I've seen a few posts about putting in a dock on my desktop -- apparently Gnome and gimp can be used in my distro. I don't want to turn my Linpus Light OS into OSX but the dock, especially when on right edge, is really useful. I'm not sure I can follow the instructions that are about for creating a dock but am willing to try if I can get a right edge dock.

Any advice?

Thanks

Assuming you are using Gnome, you right-click on the panel you would like to move. In the resulting menu there is a toggle "Lock Panel Position" or "Allow Panel to be Moved." Click on Allow Panel to be Moved and then right-click on the panel again. This time going to properties. There will be a drop-down box with 4 choices: Left, Right, Top, Bottom. Select your choice then lock down the panel again.

Similarly in KDE there is a Panel control option which allows for the same behavior. I would be surprised if the netbook didn't have something similar.

In KDE 3.x you can just pick up the panel with L-click, and drag it to any edge you like.

You can do that in Gnome too. The panel must be unlocked first. I had a senior moment and didn't think about that. Sometimes the brain cells just don't connect.

I've been able to load GIMP and Skype -- even have the icon for Skype in the connect section of the screen. But trying to install Gnome I get "unresolved dependencies" message. Should I continue with the installation anyway or must I learn how to resolve dependencies?
