is it possible to install a VisualSourceSafe-Server under linux?
there are two versions of VSS:
one is over lan, it uses a windows-directory, which you can connect over lan (i dont know the english word for it. example: \\SRV\VSS), there is a file based database.
the other is over lan to, but it works not filebased, this is better to use it for the internet.
is it possible to use one of this vss-server-solutions on linux?
It appears to be a Microsoft Windows based application. You might be able to using wine, though, I doubt it. It doesn't appear to be designed for non-Windows installations - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...49(VS.80).aspx
i know wine. i think its maybe possbile to run the VSS-Server on linux with it, but i dont prefer it, because if i use a VSS-Server on linux then it should be a really linux-version. wine is a great software, but i dont like it for things like this.
Microsoft Visual Source Safe is generally Windows only so Wine is your only real option. However MS VSS is just Version Control Software and there are many such types of software around for linux some predating MS VSS... tho I can't say I have any recommendations myself I am afraid.
