VSFTPD make: gcc: Command not found


Hey I am installing an ftp server using VSFTPD and when i type in the command MAKE i get this
gcc -c main.c -O2 -Wall -W -Wshadow -idirafter dummyinc
make: gcc: Command not found
make: *** [main.o] Error 127

I dont understand why but I do............ Please any help would be greatly appreciated!

you need a c/c++ compiler. specifically most open source software uses gcc to compile programs from source. i haven't had much success installing gcc and the libraries needed for gcc after the fact, but you can usually find them on your installation cds. hopefully there all in one place on the cd. usually when i install, i'll make sure to install all the development packages.

try going through this -> http://gcc.gnu.org/install/

One other way to get it is if you have apt-get or yum installed you can get it that way.

If you have apt-get installed:

apt-get install gcc
Unfortunatly I'm not all that fimilar with yum, so I can't give you the syntax.

set your environment
/usr/local/bin ?? or find /usr -name gcc

'yum install gcc' should to the trick.
