VSFTP question

Hi,
Here's the situation:
A .dat file is uploaded to a folder on a server running vsftp 1.2.1, and there is a daemon that grabs all *.dat files out of this directory at all times. However, this service used to be running on SuSE (now on RedHat EL AS 3.0) and basically the file needs to be hidden so the daemon doesn't pick it up until it is finished downloading. SuSE was doing this before (not sure which FTP server was used), but now the daemon is picking up the file before it is finished uploading. Is there a way VsFTP, or any other FTP program for that matter, could provide this function? Thanks,
-Base

Question

Noone has heard of this? Apparently it wasn't too hard to do on the old SuSE machine, but they may have had another ftp client..we're stumped...
