I usually set the PCM volume to 29 using alsamixer. However, when I log into KDE the volume gets reset to 52 automatically. The volume is at the right level until I log into KDE.
I do not remember any recent change done by me which might cause this. Please help me.
run alsamixer with su powers.....unfortunately its available to normal users which is the problem.....but alsactl is a command only available to su users....if that fails try kmix if you are using KDE
Don't be sorry, I had the same problem and it took me some days to find it.
I don't particularly like how KDE superseed system things without even telling you it can create unexpected behaviour, the integration is not perfect.
