hi im using gnome in gentoo im having a problem when i start the computer theres no sound i need to open xmms and turn the volume to max initially is at 0 i want to know how i can fix this and why xmms controls the system volume ??
Use "alsamixer" to fix the sound. Then run "alsactl store" as root to record the changes. If you got the same problem, simply add "alsactl restore" to your rc.local.
